This past Friday, my sweet baby David turned one year old.
I’ve been putting off writing this little blog
entry for a couple days now. I’ve been busy with the party and all but
mostly, I just don’t know what to say.
Let's start with what all happened during his big month 12.
We payed a visit to the pumpkin patch.
He had his first stomach flu. We were supposed to
go up to Sioux Falls for a wedding but the night before we were going to
leave David got sick. Zach still went but David and I hung out at
home. I had been dreading the stomach flu the
most of all the illnesses, but we made it though. Mostly he just wanted
to cuddle and sleep it off. We spent most of the weekend on the love
seat where I held him and he snoozed. I’m not going to lie, I kind of
loved that part. David is not a cuddler in any
sense of the word, so I will hold him any time that he will let me and
soak it up. The rest of the time he tried so hard to be happy and play
with his toys and crawl around but he just felt so bad and any little
thing would send him into a total fit of misery
and woe. Luckily it didn’t last long and he was back to normal pretty
quick.
He had his first Halloween.
Here are some other month 12 tidbits:
-Still isn’t walking but totally could if he wanted
to. He will walk all over the house just barely hanging on to my index
finger, but once I wiggle my finger away he goes right down to his
knees. I’m in no hurry for him to walk though.
-Speaking of walking. We got him some new shoes. What size you ask? Five and a half. Wide. Holy monster feet!
-Has gradually stopped being my good veggie eater
and much prefers pasta, bread, turkey and cheese. Fruit is hit or
miss. He ate a lot of bananas when he was sick and I think that really
turned him off of them a bit. Loves pineapple and blueberries. Yogurt is pretty much the only thing he
will allow me to spoon feed him.
-Loves his books and has favorites for sure. One is
a book about animals with touch and feel and the other is a flap book.
He will look at them over and over again.
-Really likes blocks and a toy dump truck at daycare. He almost always has it near him whenever I pick him up.
-We tried finger painting and he completely and
totally hated it. Can’t blame him. Who likes getting that gunk all over your hands anyway!?
-I started putting a small blanket in his crib with
him. One that I used a lot when he was teeny tiny. I’ve noticed he now
will roll around until his face is on it before he can fall asleep.
Lovie success!
-He’s still in the infant room at daycare and I
think he will be until the end of the year. Once he moves up he has to
sleep on a mat on the floor. Hahaha. Lol. I can’t wait to see how that
works out…. Also he’s down to one nap a day
at daycare but still needs two when he’s at home (or maybe that’s just
me….)
-Points at EVERYTHING. Point. Point. Point!
-Wiggles when he hears a song he likes and looks at you to make sure you are dancing along.
And now a bit about talking:
He’s so smart! He is getting really good and
mimicking sounds. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know what he’s saying but
he will really try to make the same sounds we do a ton! His first “word”
besides Mama, Dada and “googatee” was the cat meowing.
He mimicks George perfectly. And whenever he sees a black cat, even a
stuffed Halloween cat, he “meows” at it. Sometimes he’ll do it and we
have to ask “who was that, the cat or David?” Then he started mimicking
the dogs. Anytime he hears a dog barking he
will bark too. He even has Teds “people are outside I’m going to growl”
down which mostly sounds like “oooooooooh” He knows that cows say
“moo”. Often times I see him looking at his animal book and saying “moo”
while looking at the cow page. When I put him
on his turtle ride-on toy I would always make a motor sounds and now
when he gets on it he starts making that sound on his own. So adorable! I
think he also tries to say “ball” a lot too. The other day I was
showing him a bunch of colors and said “Yellow”
and I’m not joking, that kid said “yellow” right back to me! Zachs mom
heard it too so I’m not making that up! Just in the past week they’ve
started working on sign language at daycare. He has “more” down pat and
does it the whole time he’s eating. They say
he also signs “please” but I’ve yet to see it. So far I think the
whole talking thing is the most exciting milestone yet. It’s just so
mind-blowing to know his little brain in there is working away. It also
makes me realizing that he is definitely no longer
a baby.
Overall this past year has flown by. Most of it is a
total blur, but at the same time I feel like I remember every tiny
little bit like it just happened. David is my everything and I had no
idea how much I’d love him down to the very bottom
of my heart. I’m so excited for him to grow up and experience life but
at the same time I’m so very sad that I can’t stop time and just have
him be little forever. We are so lucky to have this happy little guy in our lives.
I’m not sure where the blog will go from here. I’m
definitely going to keep writing and updating, but I’m not sure about
the time schedule. Stay tuned I guess.
Up next: First birthday party goodness!
