Weekly Fitness Log - Week 20, 2009

I don't want to talk about it.

No, really.

I ran 6 miles on Saturday and well, the rest.... not so stellar.

I hate my body this week. I just want to curl up in bed and never go back in public ever again. I turn 28 on Sunday and I've never dreaded a birthday before. I just feel so disappointed in myself. I really let myself go this past year. I mean, I'm not "fat" by normal standards, but I don't feel like myself at all. Someone sent me a picture of myself from a few weeks ago and I nearly broke down in tears when I saw it. I don't even know who I am anymore.

I feel as if I have failed.

Weekly Fitness Log - Week 19, 2009

Running. That's all I've done.

And I'm getting sick of it.

I really don't feel like going through day by day and writing it all down. This week was a "lighter" week. I'll be hitting it hard again next week. The Hospital Hill Run is on June 6 and it can't get her fast enough. I miss the elliptical and weights, and kickboxing. Hell, yesterday I had a strong desire to do the stair climber! (what the crap?!) But, alas, all I've done is run.

I'm getting a bike for my birthday too! (Yes, I'm 8) and I can't wait to ride that around. I've decided that no matter how much I wish I was, I am not a distance runner. I get way too bored.

I did get new shoes though! I went to Garry Gribbles and shamefully showed them my old running shoes. I could tell by the look on the guys' face that I had those shoes for WAY too long. His only comment was "Well, I'd say you got your money's worth!" Heh. I'm still not sure how I thought the experience went. He tried to sell me a shoe an entire SIZE AND A HALF bigger than what I normally wore and my foot was swimming in it. He tried to insist that it was the correct size, but I demanded to go down a half size. I still think they are too big, but I'm giving them a try. He also said I have narrow feet and I noticed when I got home that he sold me a wide shoe. So I'm not convinced these people are the "experts" they claim to be. He was also asking a bajallion questions about the ipod shuffle, like he'd never heard of such a concept...you know, the ipod... I dunno, I might buy my own shoes next time.

Here they are: Mizuno Wave Inspire 5 (oooh!)

Overall Notes
I thought this was a really great week for my running! The plan is working! I was so nervous about my 6 miles on Saturday. For some reason I was having a hard time getting over the 4 mile hump, but numerous friends told me I needed to "Just Do It". So I mapped out my course, wrote it on a little piece of paper (I may or may not be known to get lost in my own neighborhood...I cannot confirm nor deny.) and told myself I would run that 6 miles or else! Luckily Saturday was the picture perfect day for a long run. It was chilly, but sunny, with a slight breeze. It was WONDERFUL! I actually did really awesome at the run too. I felt strong the whole time! I can't wait to do another! I know!

I've also lost another pound. I was a bit disappointed with only dropping one pound, but my pants are all noticeably looser, so I suppose I will take it. Something must be going on. However, I've also noticed the last couple weeks that after I eat sugar or drink too much pop, I immediately feel nauseous. It gets worse every day. (And NO! there is absolutely no baby on the way, cause I know that's what you are thinking) I'm kind of freaking out a bit and am planning on setting up a doctor appointment to get my blood sugars checked, but everyone that knows me knows I hate, hate, hate going to the doctor. I guess I need to "Just Do It". Bleh. At least I'm eating less sugar now! It's kicking my Diet Coke habit I've developed that's the toughie. *sigh* growin' up is no fun.

Overall Notes
I think I tried to push it too hard with the running this week. My legs just wouldn't go on Thursday, so I rested up on Friday and hit it hard again on Saturday. Thanks to a brand new running schedule given to me by Julie I feel like I will be in decent shape for the Hospital Hill run on June 6. Just got to keep focused! I have my first 6 mile run on Saturday. I'm pretty nervous, but I know I just have to go after it and get it done. First time is always the hardest, right?! For week 18, I'm also putting some more focus on weight lifting. My arms need to get in tank top shape ASAP!

Oh, I kept my weight steady this week, which I consider an improvement because in the past few weeks I've been down one week and up the next. I have a feeling I'll see a loss next week.

Run, Run, Run!

I've got to make time to get out there and run as much as possible. I've also set a goal to lose 10 pounds by my birthday. This week I lost 3! Yay!

And just for fun, here's a picture I got of Missy right before I sat down to type this. Apparently I'm not the only one in this family that likes to spy on the neighbors!

Nothing - hurt

Sunday, April 19
Walk Missy - 1.5 miles

Overall Notes
I'm not sure what I've done to my leg, but I'm hurt. I can't decide if it's a muscle or if I have pinched nerve or something. It's not a constant pain, but when I get up to walk there's a sharp pain on the inside of my thigh about 6 inches above my knee. I tried to run on Wednesday, but had to stop it was hurting so bad. I thought for sure I'd be better by now, but even walking the dog is painful. I'm going to try to run tomorrow because the Trolley Run is next Sunday and I'm bound and determined to beat last years time. Things are also VERY stressful at work right now and all I want to do is go run off some nervous energy. This sucks!!!!!!!!!

On the plus side, I went to a baby shower this afternoon and numerous family members said I looked skinny. I'll take that!!!

Overall Notes:
Nothing really. I started counting calories this week. I can tell a difference, but am still adjusting. I've injured my inner thigh(about 3 inches above the knee on the inside) somehow. I can't tell if it is a pinched nerve or a muscle pull. Either way, I've only run 2 times so far this week and both have been pretty brutal. I'm hoping to be able to do something this weekend. We'll see. It's frustrating.

Saturday, April 4
Jog in neighborhood - 4.34 miles
Walk Missy - 1.0 miles

Overall Notes
Pretty good week! The 30 day shred is a great incremental workout in the mornings or on days that I don't have the will to go to the gym. However, on the days where I tried to do both, my body paid for it. I was exhausted and sore. My run Saturday was especially challenging. My legs felt like cement blocks! I will admit that so far this week I haven't done the Shred, but I plan to tomorrow morning, then go to the gym in the evening. We'll see how it actually all goes down. Zach said he can definitely see more muscle tone in my legs, so something has to be working.

I still haven't bought new shoes either. I think my feet are going to rebel at any point. This weekend I will get some. I swear!

Onward and upward!

30 Day Shred: Level 1 Day 3
Walk Missy 1.5 Miles

Overall Notes
This was an average week. I started off pretty strong as I do most weeks and then things started to trail off towards the end of the week. I blame the sudden turn in the weather. Anyway, as you can see I've started Jillian Michales 30 Day Shred program. My friend sent me the link to all the workouts on YouTube! Yes! This is much better than following her book for "Making the Cut" alone in the basement. This time I actually have her talking to me. So far it's going alright. I've sworn to myself that I'm not going to get into the 30 Day Shred Rut and only do that, so I've commited to going to the gym/running at least 4 days of the week in addition to doing her program everyday. Hopefully this is the extra boost I need to get things going my way. I will say that after only 3 days I already felt stronger and better.

This is a never ending battle people. *sigh*

Friday, March 20

Saturday, March 21

Sunday, March 22
Off Day

Overall Notes:
This was an alright week. The first two days of the week I was still getting back into the swing of things. The rest of the week I felt pretty good. Although I'm starting to have a little knee pain that I'm not sure about. I really think it's because I disparately need new shoes, but keep putting off getting them. The bottom of my current shoes are completely worn flat and I'm sure there's absolutely no cushion left. I'm SO bad about buying new running shoes. Maybe next week.

I mentioned in my last update that I was doing the Low Carb diet. Um, that didn't go so well. I love carbs. I was successful at REDUCING my carb intake, so I think I'll consider that a win. I lost a pound or so. I stocked up at the grocery store on good for you food and my pantry is close to being depeted of bad food (ignore those jelly beans, ok?). I'm trying my best.

Weekly Fitness Log - Week 10, 2009

Week 10! Wow, I never thought I'd keep this up for so long.

As predicted, I don't have much to report. I think I had a touch of Zach's sickness and then a touch of allergies. I felt heavy headed and tired and just plain gross all week long. I didn't work out until today. So, that means I took an entire week off. I honestly cannot remember the last time I didn't work out for a whole week. I mean, I even worked out on my honeymoon! This is bad. I did run with Missy a little bit on Wednesday, but I'm not counting that.

Today I ran outside in the neighborhood because it was so nice out. I would consider it a "walk/run". Running after a whole week off is really hard, especially since I still don't feel the greatest. It got better towards the end, so I don't think I lost too much ground.

Tomorrow I start my LOW carb diet again. I did this two years ago right around this time before my engagement pictures and a trip to Florida. It worked surprisingly well. This time of year is perfect for low carb (note how I keep saying LOW carb, no way I can go totally no carb) because I'm starting to be in the mood for lots of salads and lots of grilling out. Now that we actually have a grill it should work even better! Nothing tastes worse than a turkey burger on the George Foreman! Yick! So, wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

I'll update my progress next week!

Weekly Fitness Log - Week 9

Well, I got lazy last week and kind of forgot to write down my workouts...

I know I worked out 4 days last week. One of those days was the Drumm Run. The others probably consisted of a mix of cardio and weights... Ugh. Totally spaced things off last week.

Don't expect week 10 to be much better either. I haven't worked out since the run on Saturday. I'm going to *try* today, but Zach has been sick with a fever since Sunday and I'm starting to wonder if I have a touch of it. I just feel bleh. I'll take Missy on her walk tonight and see how I feel. I might be able to get a run in. We shall see.

I still full intend on doing the triathlon in August. I'm asking for a bike for my birthday! Now I just need to start swimming.......

Overall Notes
Good week! I was very happy with my two 4 mile runs. As expected the first 2 were the hardest and going further than that comes a little easier. I also stepped on the scale this week and was pleased to see I lost just shy of 3 pounds. So far this week has been a struggle, but I'm running a 5K on Saturday so I've got to get ready for that. I won't be back on the scale for a few weeks though!

Weight Loss/Overall Notes
I'm still having a standoff with my scale. Not getting on it! However a few pairs of pants felt a little bit looser this weekend, so I'm taking that as a good sign. I'm a little upset that my 3 mile run was sort-of difficult, but at least I did it. I WILL do 4 miles straight by the weekend. Big things are hopefully yet to come!

Walk Missy: 1.5 mi

Sunday, February 15
Treadmill: Run 2.0 straight through + cool down.
Bike: 20 min
Abs

Weight Loss/Overall Notes:
I didn't weigh myself this week. I'm at an impasse and until I can FEEL myself getting thinner, I'm staying off the scale. I'm very, very frustrated. I simply like sweets WAY too much. I need to make a better effort to lay off. I think once my Valentine's Day treats are gone, I'm going to go on a baking hiatus. It's going to be tough, but if I don't have stuff in the house, I can't eat it! *sigh*
But on the work out front- things are good. My runs are getting much easier and now that I've made it past the 2.0 miles straight through, things will get much better. For some reason getting to that two miles kills me, but once I've done it, it's easier. So I hope to hit 3 miles a few times this week and maybe go for 4 on Sunday, but that might be a bit ambitious. We shall see!

Wednesday, February 4

Thursday, February 5
Walk Missy: 25 min (I found out the mileage on our walk is 1.5 miles, not too bad!)

Weight Loss/Overall Notes
Very proud of myself for only taking 2 days off! Walking Missy doesn't count as "working out" but I include it because it's "something". Upset about not losing any weight. It's looking like I'm not going to meet my 10 lb weight loss goal for February. Maybe it wasn't realistic? I don't know. I'm frustrated. I'm going to focus more on diet next week.

Weight Loss/Overall Notes
I lost the two pounds I gained last week. I also can notice that my clothes fit better. When I lose weight I tend to lose it inwards from my head and toes, meaning that my center is the last part to lose and I can tell that is happening right now. I just have to keep the momentum and hopefully the rest will follow suit. I also need to stop taking that extra day off at the gym!

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Overall notes:
Really frustrating week. I started out thinking this was going to be the week to really kick things into high gear, but I got sick and just fell into a huge funk. I ate HORRIBLY all week and definitely paid for it. I hope to not have many more weeks like this.

Fitness Log - Week 2 (2009)

I decided to change when I update my fitness log. It will now be Monday-Sunday. So this week I have 2 Sunday's to report.

This week was a little tougher. We were having car problems, so it was difficult to get to the gym. I also wasn't feeling so well off and on, so my workouts weren't as intense as I had hoped for this week. I kicked it up a notch this weekend, so I feel like I'm back on track. Here's this weeks' update.

Sunday, January 11
Running: 25 minutes on the treadmill (1.25 straight run, .25 warm-up and cool down)
Yoga: 60 minutes. Legs focused
(Tough workout. Yoga was brutal. Felt great afterwards though!)

Monday, January 12
Day Off

Tuesday, January 13
Walk Missy: 35 Minutes
Fit TV: 1/2 hour of All Star Workouts - Cardio
Basement Work: 150 Jumping Jacks, 50 Butt Kicks, 50 Mountain Climbers, 50 high knees, 50 high kicks each leg, 250 crunches
(It was freezing outside and the car was having issues. I tried to make due the best I could. I was disappointed in this workout)

Wednesday, January 14
Running: 20 minutes on treadmill (.25 warm-up, 1.5 run, .25 cool-down)
Weights: Biceps, Triceps, Shoulders
Stair Climber: 15 Minutes
Sauna: 15 Minutes
(I wasn't feeling that great so this workout got cut a little short. I also was planning on staying for Zumba, but had the wrong day..oops!)

Thursday, January 15
Walk/Run Missy: 25 minutes
(Didn't feel good at all. Ate horribly - Bad day!)

Friday, January 16
Nothing. My planned long walk with Missy got cut because there was a flipping police standoff on the next block over and I wasn't about to leave my house, but I did run back and forth from my dining room window to bedroom window to watch the action. I don't think that counts though.

Saturday, January 17
Running: 30 minutes on the treadmill (.25 warm-up, 1.0 run, .25 recovery, 1.0 run, .25 cool-down)
Elliptical: 20 Minute hill climb
Weights: Ab machine, legs
Sauna: 15 Minutes
(Great workout! Intense cardio focus. I was beat after this workout. The sauna was extra refreshing.)

Sunday, January 18
Running: 30 minutes on the treadmill (.25 warm-up, 1.0 run, .25 cool-down, .50 walk at 6 incline)
Weights: Hit all major muscle groups. 20 minutes

Weight Loss
This Week: -1.5
To Date: - 3.5
Weight Left to lose: 6.5 lbs by the end of February

Overall Notes
Like I said, I was some what upset with my progress this week. It was tough. I ate a lot of stuff I probably shouldn't have, so I plan to reverse that this week and eat fairly decently. I also plan to kick up the workouts even more.
