The ear tubes are in!
Monday's surgery went very well. We got up at the crack of dawn to drive out there for our 6:30am appointment. It would figure that the ENT recommended most to us is clear across town, but that's how it goes with everything when you live in Greenwood, I suppose. We spent a fair amount of time waiting in the pre-op room, but David kept himself pretty well entertained bouncing back and forth on the bed. A few doctors came in to talk to us and then a couple nurses took him away and told us to wait in the waiting room....
I didn't even have enough time to get upset before the doctor came through the door to tell us everything went great. Seriously, we were sitting there maybe 15 minutes. They only used gas to put him under during the procedure so he was awake and ready for us pretty quick. He definitely wasn't happy and was probably confused about where the heck he was and what just happened, but we were just thrilled that all was well.
By 8:00am we were on our way home!
The morning was understandably a little moody, but by the afternoon he seemed perfectly happy and healthy. Tuesday he was literally a ball of joy. That kid was HAPPY!! The daycare ladies even commented on how much they had been missing his goofy smiles. He's clearly feeling much, much better. Still not too into those bottles and we think he's just weaning himself, but it's a little early for that so we are sneaking them in as much as we can.
He's all over the place, talking up a storm, laughing and just being plain adorable. We couldn't ask for more! Let's just all hope they do their job and we are done with the constant doctor appointments, for just a little bit anyway. His follow up is in 2 weeks...

myringotomy
Well, Mr. David is getting tubes (myringotomy is what the procedure is called).
We had our ENT appointment on Wednesday. I made a detailed
list before we left of all the dates of his ear infections and what medicines
were used to treat it and how much. The doctor looked at it and said it was probably one giant ear
infection that never healed. Since May!
Poor baby!!! She then looked at
his ears. One was “ok” and the other she took one gander inside, said “now this
one is very bad” and immediately leapt into her speech about tubes. We didn’t need much convincing and just like
that surgery was scheduled for Monday morning.
He’s been pretty off and on since then. Running a fever,
going from happy to cranky at the drop of a hat, not napping, not eating much
and sleeping restlessly at night. So
yeah, Monday can’t get here soon enough.
I’ve been pretty anxious and haven’t been able to
concentrate on much since then. I was ok with the thought of tubes and the surgery up
until the point she said “tiny knife”. I don’t know why, but that part is really
messing with my head. I know it’s routine and I know he’ll be fine, but I won’t
be able to rest easy until it’s over and he’s healthy again. I look forward to him feeling better, that’s
for sure. We’ve noticed he isn’t babbling quite as much lately and she thinks
the amount of gunk in his ears makes it sound like he's underwater so that may be the reason. I’m really looking forward to
getting my chatty, happy dude back.
Wish us luck.

David is 10 Months Old!
Oh hey, 10 months, way to sneak up on us. Double digits, here we go!
I had to go back and read his 9 month update. So much has changed since then!!
First off, we are mobile. WAY mobile. He started
crawling shortly after he turned 9 months and hasn’t looked back since.
He gets faster every day too and seems to be really loving his new found
freedom. His main objective is getting into
the pets water dish because if we put him down, he immediately
bee-lines right to it. I pick it up and then inevitably one of the pets
is sitting there whining or meowing for it to be put back down. Fun
times!
He just started pulling up last week. He had to
really work hard at first, but now he can pretty much pop up with the
support of anything. His favorite spots are the back door, the gate we
have blocking off the living room and his activity
table, with honorable mention going to the dining room chairs, the
pantry and Missy. Once he’s standing I’ve noticed he likes to let go
and stand on his own for several seconds at a time. When he’s done he
plops right down on his behind, looks at us to make
sure “it’s ok” and smiles so big!
9 months was also The Month Of The Ear Infection.
He’s had a constant ear infection for over a month now. Three rounds of
antibiotics of increasing intensity and it’s still going strong. I’ve
had to leave work, work from home and take
vacation more days than I can even believe. Luckily everyone has been
very understanding. We have an appointment with an Ear, Nose and Throat
doctor on Wednesday and we are hoping for some answers. It absolutely
kills me to know that he’s been in pain for
this long. He’s hardly drinking his bottles because it hurts and we are
all getting really frustrated. Despite all of this nonsense, he's still a pretty happy guy. We are lucky!
Here's a little video of him on one of the days I had to leave work and go get him from daycare. I was told he was being a ball of woe and sorrow. Hmm...
Even though he doesn’t want much to do with his
bottles anymore he’s eating regular food like a pro! We’ve pretty much
moved on from baby food (as he now hates to be fed off a spoon) and have
moved on to finger foods! Banana is his current
favorite. He also likes quesadillas, pasta, peas, blueberries, bread,
squash and of course, Cheerios. He eats whatever daycare makes for
lunch and snack too (which is sometimes kind of crazy, like soup!) He
loves to eat, that’s for sure! We are still working
on the sippy cup, but he will now take a few drinks if we hold it up
for him. Progress!
As far as words, he’s definitely got “mama” and
“dada” down and I’m pretty sure he says “dog” a lot too. There are
several other words we can tell he’s working really hard at too. I'm pretty sure it might be "No, Missy", "Knock it off, Ted" or "George, get out of here."Next up? Family pictures, first haircut (gasp! sob! whimper.) and lots of mommy and David time as football season gets in to gear! We have Nebraska season tickets and Zach scored a job with the Chiefs so I've got my work cut out for me, making this kid into a football fan!

In the last week...
...apparently someone swaped out my little baby for a full-on kid that:
- Crawls
- Go from crawl to sit
- Pulls up to his knees
- Sometimes pulls up to his feet
- Eats big people food and LOVES it
- Attempts to climb things
- Drinks from a sippy cup (kinda)
- Babbles like no other
Um, hi. That's enough for one week, ok? Can we slow it down a bit there?
Here are a couple videos from the last few days:
Getting into stuff and talking:
Crawling (and Ted barking, as per usual)

Currently
I love a good blog trend and this one has been making the rounds so I thought I'd play...
CURRENTLY:
WORKING ON: Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. At work, that is. At home I'm working on trying to figure out where to put all the stuff we have laying around once David really starts moving. Zach would prefer the answer be "the trash" I'm sure. I'm also really working on eating healthy and working out more.
THINKING ABOUT: How David's first year is quickly winding down. Every night I feed him a bottle and rock him to sleep in his room, the nagging thought that I won't be able to do this much longer creeps into my head and I'm instantly sad. If I could have one wish, it would be that I could rock that baby to sleep every night, forever.
ANTICIPATING: A very busy fall. Lots of football for Zach, lots of big milestones for David and hopefully some great family times together.
LISTENING TO: The baby monitor. I think we rely on Davids sound machine to sleep more than he does. He also keeps coughing and tossing and turning a lot tonight. Poor little muffin has another cold and ear infection. I'm hoping he sleeps well.
EATING: Ate some Cherrios for dinner not long ago (need to not eat so late!) and now I'm finally finishing off the Jose Cuervo strawberry margarita that has been sitting in the fridge for way too long. It's not very good.
THANKFUL FOR: My family. All of them.
PLANNING FOR: A middle of the night wake up call. But otherwise, a fun lunch with coworkers at Blanc tomorrow! Yay Friday!

David is Nine Months Old!
Nine months old. Another month down.
I’m having a hard time getting my thoughts together
for this month. It seems like it went by so fast. Perhaps we’ll do a
bullet list this month?
- He has 4 teeth! The top ones came in a couple weeks ago. He looks so much like a little kid now. There are two more on top that I can see making their way through too.
- Went swimming for the first time. He seemed to like it, but didn’t really do much to show that excitement. Or fear. We couldn’t tell. He remained stone-faced nearly the entire time we were there. Something tells me his personality might lean a little more towards my side.
- Cries when I leave the room unless he is distracted.
- Thinks the dogs are hilarious. He will sit there and randomly laugh his behind off at them for no reason whatsoever.
- Apparently he crawls at daycare. Hasn’t even budged at home. Little stinker!
- Cruised along the couch the other night. Very, very wobbly and slow cruising, but cruising none the less.
- His hair is getting lighter and lighter. I actually think it’s growing in blonde, but the ends are still brown. I have a feeling he’ll be a full-on blonde by next summer. So weird!
- Loves to go shopping and sit in the cart or stroller.
- Says “Mama” and “Dada” a lot. Jury still out on if he truly knows that’s who we are. Also babbles a lot more recently. He really means what he says too.
- Definitely knows his name.
- Still adores his jumper. I will cry when he’s too heavy for it. He’s almost there.
- Had his first overnight at Grandma and Grandpas. He slept all night and had pancakes for breakfast. Zach and I went on a REAL date, stayed out past 7pm and I got to sleep in. Amazing!
- Is a bookworm but prefers to hold the book himself, which makes actually reading the book to him a bit of a challenge.
- Loves, loves, loves puffs and cheerios. Gobbles them up and cries when I put the container away.
- Has started to form definite opinions. Especially around eating. He wants to hold the spoon but refuses to pick food up off his tray (except those puffs of course).
- Continues to think blowing raspberries is the most fun thing ever. Even more fun with a mouth full of oatmeal!
- Sleeps at night from 7:30 till 6am pretty consistently. Still takes 3 naps but we are working hard to nix that early morning nap.
Another thing? Him and the cat? Best friends
for life. It is so strange to us. George has pretty much remained in
hiding since we got the dogs (sad but true). However, since David has
started sitting up and
playing with toys, George has made his grand reappearance. If David is
on the floor, that cat is right next to him. We shoo him off, but he
just comes right back. David can kick him, pull his fur, wrench his head
and hit him with toys and the cat doesn’t even
flinch. Nothing. Just sits there. While this is great, we still keep a
very close watch on those two. Our house is a circus, that’s for sure.
It’s been unbelievably hot this summer so we
really haven’t been able to do anything we wanted to outside yet. I
actually think we went on more walks during the dead of winter than we
have this summer. So
sad. I’m hoping this means we will get a mild Fall. Fingers crossed! We
are starting to get cabin fever over here! But we have fun playing on the floor anyway.
Up next, 10 months! Then I can say he's "almost one". That's insane.

David is Eight Months Old!
You know all those people that say “enjoy it, it goes so fast”? They are correct.
8 Months! I remember when 8 months seemed so old.
Now, here we are, chugging right along. His first birthday will be here
in a blink! I’ve recently started getting a little weepy about how fast
things are going. He doesn’t like to be
cradled and hardly ever falls asleep in my arms anymore. He wants his
crib and he wants his freedom. I’m so glad I spent nearly my entire 5
months of maternity leave holding that little muffin in the recliner
during all his naps. I thought I was spoiling
him, but he’s turned out just fine and I will forever cherish those
moments (and thousand cell phone pictures of him sleeping). Babies
certainly don’t keep.
So, what’s going on? Honestly, not a whole lot of
new stuff since his 7 month update. He’s sitting really well now.
Although he has figured out that we keep a pillow behind him so when
he’s done sitting, he’ll just fall backward. He thinks
this is very funny, but I am not quite sure how to get him out of this.
Maybe use a folded blanket instead so it’s still soft enough, but maybe
not as fun? Sometimes he falls to the side, but I almost think it’s
intentional because it’s a slow fall and he
just rolls over and continues playing.
Crawling is still a no-go. He has figured out he
can roll anywhere he wants to go and is generally OK with this means of
transportation. We are trying to do more floor
time and it’s hard watching him get frustrated, but I know that’s the
only way he’ll learn. Just last night he got up on his hands and knees and rocked for the first time. Daycare says he’s trying to pull up on some toys
and Zach said he pulled up on our TV cove thing last week. So yes, baby-proofing in full effect.
He’s still eating puree’s and cereal for breakfast
and dinner along with his formula. I tried some puffs but he just gaged and then threw up
everything I’d just fed him. So, we’ll wait a little longer on that. I
think next I’ll make him some food with more
texture and see how that goes. He hates the mesh feeder and scrunches
his face when I try to put it in his mouth. He’s working on getting the
sippy cup down, but mostly just wants to chew on the spout. At a
family gathering a couple weeks ago I caved to
the peer pressure to let him try a couple tiny bites of homemade ice
cream. He really, really hated it. But green beans?
He’d eat them all day. Weirdo.
The poor little thing has had a whopper of an ear
infection. I suspect the one he got a couple weeks ago never healed but
last Monday he was just absolutely miserable. Cried and cried and cried
and cried. He hasn’t acted like that since
he was 6 weeks old. So, Zach took him in and here we are on yet
another round of antibiotics (we've done a LOT of laundry lately....) It’s not fun, but that little kid is a
trooper. He might be totally miserable but he’ll still bust out the
smiles for the doctor and anybody else that wants to
make him giggle. Also, his top teeth are making their way through. The
first one has just cut through and the next one is on it’s way. It’s
pretty hard on him, but he’s doing alright. He’s going to look so
different with top teeth!
We’ve officially ditched the infant car seat, the
baby swing and two huge tubs full of clothes. He’s so, so tall and at
his doctor appointment last week he weighed 20 lbs 10 oz. Both Zach and I
were really tall kids, so I guess we shouldn’t
be surprised, but in the end we both ended up being rather average. So,
whatever.
Also...
I’ve been meaning to capture this because I think it’s really strange: We have never, ever let David sleep in bed with us. Not once. Since the day he was born. However, for the past 8 months, I wake up nearly every single night freaking out that he’s in bed with us and I’m either A) squashing him or B) trying to catch him because I think he’s falling off the bed. EVERY! NIGHT! It’s driving me absolutely insane. I’ve even woken Zach up several times “looking for the baby” by digging around in the sheets. It’s so bizarre. I just hope it stops soon, but it’s been so long already. Who knows how I’m going to react when he gets to be old enough to actually get in the bed on his own!
I mean, that's weird, right?
